So I’ve always been really bad when it comes to exercising. I’ll work out regularly for a week and not go at all for another month then I’ll come back to it for a day and leave it again for another week. It’s just really irregular. I know exercise is really important just to remain healthy and fit (I don’t really concern myself too much with weight loss), but I just have a hard time getting myself to do it.
Well, I did work out yesterday… it wasn’t much, but it was better than nothing. I spent 15 minutes on the elliptical and another 5 on the rowing machine (really good arm workout). I also lifted a little. I noticed pretty quickly just how bored I was doing the same thing over and over. And afterwards, I was just tired. I was proud of myself, for sure, but mostly, I was just happy to be done. While on the machines, I couldn’t help but watch the timer slowly tick down the seconds I exercised. Fifteen minutes on the elliptical felt like forever.
I’ve also tried a DVD workout– specifically with Jillian Michaels. I didn’t really enjoy that either. My funny husband lovingly laughed at me as I mimicked Jillian’s routines. Some of those moves are pretty ridiculous, haha.
I’d like to find something that’s fun to do– really stimulating and energetic. I also don’t want to have to pay too much money. That’s probably my first concern. I know I can take Zumba classes, for example, but I don’t want to pay $60 for eight classes. That’s a huge investment if you want to do it for more than a month!
So if anyone has any tips or creative ideas, please share. Like I said, I love to be healthy and I know how important it is. I’m just looking for my own niche when it comes to exercise.
too keep it fun for our athletes we always come up with obsticle courses they can do, or we hide things in the ATR and make it like a scavenger hunt in the ATR but they have to do certain exercises to get to the clues… but i guess you would have to get some friends to help you out with that one! lol
What are you doing that you’re giving yourself time to be bored? Maybe up your resistance level or incline on the eliptical/treadmill? Do something else (watch something. listen to music, whatever, or zone out, if strenuous activity doesn’t occupy your mind). You don’t really need to do tons and tons of reps of anything. Just do as many as you can with as much resistance or weight as makes it difficult from the first rep, and do a few sets. I know common sense says that lots of weight, low reps = bulk, low weight and lots of reps = tone, but that is bs.
